SCE Academy

The SCE Academy helps to ensure a steady supply of fully qualified crane maintenance engineers for Street Cranexpress.

The SCE Academy was established in 2016 to home-grow overhead crane engineers when it was recognised that experienced crane engineers are in short supply, and future growth would not be met by the existing job market.

The SCE Academy, in conjunction with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), has developed a 4-year apprenticeship that will train students to become SCE engineers, with all the qualifications and skills the company expects of its engineers.

The SCE Academy apprenticeship programme is made up of a BTEC & NVQ level 3 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which takes approximately 2 years to complete. The next 18 months is spent studying for an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Next comes the graduation period, where the apprentice continues to shadow a mentor until the end of the 4-year apprenticeship programme. This allows the apprentice to further increase their knowledge and experience, whilst  remaining in a safe environment with an experienced engineer close by.

Upon completion of the 4-year apprenticeship, the apprentice becomes a fully qualified Service Engineer.

Additional training

Alongside academic training at AMRC, we deliver further courses in-house, and book our apprentices on external training courses as required. This includes but is not limited to:

  • In-house workshops led by one of our engineers,
  • IPAF 3a 3b,
  • LEEA Foundation,
  • Emergency First Aid at Work,
  • Safe Working at Height,
  • Overhead Crane Training
  • and more.
