Proven Record in Health & Safety

20th March 2013

Street CraneXpress Ltd has been recertified with safecontractor accreditation, demonstrating the company’s commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety.

Safecontractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises very high standards in health and safety management amongst UK contractors. Street CraneXpress first achieved the accreditation in 2008 so this will be the 6th year in a row that the company has proven its commitment to the safety of its employees and clients, to this independent body.

safecontractor logoThe auditing process examines health and safety procedures and a company’s track record for safe practice. Street CraneXpress has been able to demonstrate once again its compliance with current health and safety legislation for all its procedures and processes, including such practices as working at height, use of powered machinery, manual handling and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

Graham Simpson, the SCX Group’s Business Management Systems Manager said: “Since first achieving accreditation in 2008, we have built on that accomplishment and endeavoured towards further improvement in all areas of our business.

“We are continually improving our safe systems of work and we ensure that we back this up with supporting evidence and documentation. For example, we now undertake Point of Work Risk Assessments for each and every job we attend, and provide this feedback to the customer, assuring them that our engineers’ working practices are as safe as possible, whilst we’re on their site.”

Under the safecontractor scheme, those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users via a website. Client-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

John Kinge, Technical Director of safecontractor said, "Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place."

"More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Street CraneXpress has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”

Over one hundred and seventy major nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
